NO DESIGN NUMBER HERE IS VALIDATED AGAINST SILICON. The validation blocks of the design capabilities (qem, qem_cross, inv_cross, resonator_fr, sfq_predict, spice_characterize) name a SIMULATED or ANALYTIC reference: an analytic oracle, HFSS or JoSIM. rad_assess is the exception: it is calibrated against 2 published measured devices and graded out of sample against 4 more, and FAILS 1 of those; read its validation and out_of_sample blocks before using it. The measured devices shipped in fluxus/data/measured_devices/ are 6 SQuADDS transmons (chip WM1) in squadds_wm1_measured.json (their drawn geometry is public in LFL-Lab/design_schema_WM1; only Q1 is inside the TransmonCross envelope, and their L_j values are backed out from the measured f01 and alpha, not measured), and 2 IBM Eagle r3 calibration exports, ibm_brisbane_2025-04-30.csv (127 qubits) and ibm_sherbrooke_2025-04-30.csv (127 qubits), with measured f01, anharmonicity, coherence, gate errors and coupling map but no design targets, so no per-qubit sigma_f. fluxus.bench.validate_yld runs the yield collision rules against the Eagle exports; no capability on this card is graded against them. On the SFQ side the ground truth is JoSIM and the cell library is literature-reconstructed rather than foundry GDS; the served margin heads are scored against a median predictor ('improvement_over_median' under sfq_predict), not against hardware. Outside rad_assess's graded points, do not report any number from this API as a prediction of fabricated hardware.
rad_assess
Correlated-error footprint, burst rate and logical-error floor for a chip in an environment: the one error class QEC handles worst, because surface codes assume independence.

Validation
- reference
- TWO PUBLISHED DEVICES, which is the unusual part: Google's gap-engineered Willow (arXiv:2506.18228) and Li et al.'s 63q sapphire device (arXiv:2402.04245). The phonon transport kernel is separately graded against G4CMP (Geant4 11.4.1) at 10.2% of distribution mass misplaced, against a 6.64% statistical noise floor.
- measured
- muon_burst_rate_per_hr
- 1.02x of the measured 9.3/hr at 0.3 mm, with NO free parameter: textbook sea-level flux and a known die area. But the die thickness is NOT published and this channel is steep in it (6.03x at 0.725 mm), so the pass is CONDITIONAL on the thin value.
- gamma_burst_rate_per_hr
- 0.29x of the measured 41.4/hr at 0.3 mm, served as a BAND over the cached spectra. NO SINGLE THICKNESS SATISFIES BOTH CHANNELS (consistent=False), so the shortfall reads as a site flux difference of about 3.4x rather than a model error -- which is an inference about someone else's building, not a validated rate.
- median_burst_qubits
- 15 of 60 measured, band 11-19, and the chain reproduces it. But it carries a 24% KERNEL-SHAPE SYSTEMATIC in a known direction at Willow's 0.5 mm transport thickness (linear between 0.381 and 0.6 mm): G4CMP's own kernel is more peaked near the strike (1.81x at 0.381 mm), and substituting it shrinks the median by that much, so served sizes are biased HIGH. Correcting toward the reference would put the median at or below the band's lower edge.
- large_burst_share
- 0.054 measured, Poisson band 0.029-0.089. Same kernel-shape systematic as the median.
- p90_burst_qubits
- SERVED BUT NOT VALIDATED: no device publishes a measured p90. Its kernel-shape systematic at Willow's 0.5 mm is 20%, inside the +/-27% band the median is graded against.
- footprint_systematic_by_thickness
- the kernel-shape systematic depends on transport thickness: median / p90 overestimate 0% / 0% at 0.1 mm, 0% / 0% at 0.2 mm, 25% / 33% at 0.381 mm, 23% / 9% at 0.6 mm, 49% / 43% at 1 mm; none on thin dies, about double on 1 mm ones. Each footprint carries the figure for its own thickness.
- kernel_vs_g4cmp
- 10.2% of distribution mass misplaced against a 6.64% statistical noise floor, so 1.5x the floor and not the 1.3x first recorded.
- eta_trap_correction
- 375 G4CMP configurations, 90% conformal band +/-9.2%, which is the ALL-REGION number and not the tighter interior one.
- note
- The correlated floor served here is Google's MEASURED d=29 repetition-code floor (arXiv:2408.13687), not a prediction from the caller's design, and GOOGLE DOES NOT ATTRIBUTE THAT FLOOR TO RADIATION. Do not read this endpoint as explaining their floor.
Refuses when
- detection_threshold_keV omitted -> burst_rate refused; it is a DEVICE property and the chain cannot predict it
- trap geometry outside the eta box -> trap_correction refused rather than extrapolated
- thickness outside 0.05-2.0 mm -> burst_rate and footprint refused; inside it, interpolated between Geant4 runs and the response names the two runs
- unknown source -> HTTP 422 from the request model
- qubits off the die, duplicate positions, or n_qubits disagreeing with qubit_xy_mm -> footprint_qubits refused, with the die size a generated grid would need; never clamped. Any layout other than Willow's 60 measured sites reads BORROWED
- inputs away from a graded point -> that section reads calibration.status = BORROWED, naming the axis it departs on and the device whose normalisation is reused. NOT a refusal: the number is still returned.

- known_misses
- geometry is not uniquely identified: transport thickness and effective film absorption were fitted jointly to burst size, so other pairs fit equally well
- the environmental gamma flux is INFERRED from device 2 (Li et al.) and applied to device 1; two fridges in different buildings genuinely differ, so a factor of a few on the gamma rate is expected, not a failure
- NO SINGLE DIE THICKNESS SATISFIES BOTH CHANNELS, measured 2026-09-30 by rate_crosscheck.joint_thickness_constraint(). Willow's thickness is not published, and at 0.3 / 0.5 / 0.725 mm the muon ratio runs 1.02 / 3.84 / 6.03 while the gamma ratio runs 0.29 / 0.70 / 1.24: muon can only be right on a thin die and gamma only on a thick one. The muon channel has no free parameter (textbook sea-level flux, known die area), so it pins the thickness, and the gamma shortfall is then a SITE FLUX difference of about 3.4x rather than a model error. That is consistent with building-to-building variation, but it is an inference about someone else's building and is not a validated rate
- G4CMP has NOT been used for transport in the served chain -- it graded the kernel and fitted eta, no more. The kernel is graded on SILICON at 0.1, 0.2, 0.381, 0.6 and 1.0 mm (2026-10-10, bench/rad_kernel_thickness_grade.py): 1.00, 0.96, 1.53, 1.77 and 1.23x the G4CMP noise floor. Outside 0.1-1.0 mm, and for sapphire at any thickness, the transport is ungraded
- the per-qubit frequency-shift normalisation k is Willow's fitted value scaled by physics ratios for qubit frequency, gap, gap difference, film coverage and cell area (since 2026-10-09; before, every device was forced to Willow's 2 MHz median peak). Film thickness, pair-breaking efficiency and the low/high-gap volume split are NOT in the ratio: Willow's are unpublished, so they stay borrowed as one scalar, and the ratios themselves are untested on a second device
- THE FOOTPRINT CARRIES A KERNEL-SHAPE SYSTEMATIC THAT DEPENDS ON THICKNESS (2026-10-10: median/p90 0/0% at 0.1-0.2 mm, 25/33% at 0.381, 23/9% at 0.6, 49/43% at 1.0 mm; each footprint carries its own). First measured as a single 25% on 2026-10-01 by bench/rad_event_tails.py, where G4CMP's own kernel is 1.81x more peaked inside 0.3 mm. At Willow's graded 0.5 mm transport thickness substituting it shrinks the median burst 24% and p90 20%, so these sizes are biased HIGH. p90 has no measured counterpart on any device, so it is not a validated quantity; where its systematic exceeds the +/-27% band the median is graded against (0.381 and 1.0 mm) that is a second reason. And it bears on the median's PASS: the transport thickness of 0.5 mm was fitted jointly with film absorption to match burst size, so it may be absorbing exactly this kernel-shape error rather than describing the device -- which is the 'geometry is not uniquely identified' caveat, now with a mechanism and a magnitude
- THE FREQUENCY-SHIFT SCALE DOES NOT TRANSFER, graded 2026-10-10 (bench/rad_step4_grades.py, pre-registered): on Pinckney et al. 2026's gap-engineered array (arXiv:2603.13460, the only other published frequency-shift data) this chain predicts a trigger-averaged shift of 1.6 MHz at 699 keV where they measured under 100 kHz, 16x too large. CONFIRMED 2026-10-11 by simulating their Ramsey instrument (bench/rad_pinckney_instrument.py): at the served scale they would have fitted a 430-525 kHz shift with T2 0.3-0.5 us; they fitted 65 kHz with T2 2.03 us, so it is not a measurement artifact. The gap is ENERGY DEPENDENT: about 8-20x at 699 keV, 30-50x at 200-450 keV (their shift grows as E^1.3, this chain's linearly). Burst sizes and peak shifts on any device other than Willow are therefore UNVALIDATED and likely too large, by up to 1-2 orders of magnitude in the shift
- NO NEAR-CHIP RADIOACTIVITY FLOOR: contamination in the PCBs, package and cryostat parts next to the chip is not modelled, so the benefit of going underground or adding lead is OVERSTATED. De Dominicis et al. 2024 (arXiv:2405.18355) measured 11.7x from Fermilab surface to shielded Gran Sasso; this chain predicts 20-35x with 5 cm of lead and 57-100x with 8 cm, and their own simulation puts most of the underground rate in the PCBs. Bratrud et al. 2024 saw the rate fall 2.7x when the gamma flux fell 20x
- the NON-IONIZING burst source (stress relaxation: arXiv:2503.09554, arXiv:2606.07339, arXiv:2505.16092) is NOT modelled, and in a well-shielded device it dominates -- radiation is the 17-18% minority
